Another eight people were detained when army forces raided a number of Syrian refugee camps in the northern city, the statement said.

Tripoli has been the scene of fierce clashes between the Lebanese army and militants in recent days.

At least 11 Lebanese soldiers have been killed in the violence.

The Lebanese army has been the target of repeated attacks since September, particularly in the northern part of the country and in areas adjacent to the border with Syria.
