Egypt's legitimate President Morsi: 'We will save Egypt from this dictatorship'
Mohamed Morsi, who has been imprisoned since his ouster from the presidency in July 2013, has called for his supporters to continue "the revolution" in a message posted on Facebook for Eid al-Fitr marking the end of Ramadan.

"Our Revolution has passed, and still passes, through historic curves typical of all revolutions," wrote Morsi in a message published Thursday evening.

“We will carry this country on our shoulder. The revolution will succeed. We will raise the revolution’s ideal and aims. We will save Egypt from dictatorship,” Morsi continued.

Morsi referred to himself as "President of the Arab Republic of Egypt" under his signature.

Morsi, the country’s first democratically elected president, was overthrown in a military coup led by army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on July 3, 2013. The military chief was elected as president in May 2014.

The Muslim Brotherhood leader was sentenced to death last month over charges of espionage and a mass jailbreak incident in 2011 during demonstrations that removed the then Egyptian leader, Hosni Mubarak. Apart from the death penalty, Morsi was also given a life sentence.
