PYD abducting underage girls in Syria

The PYD, the terrorist PKK group’s Syrian affiliate, reportedly abducted six female minors earlier this month in Syria’s northeastern Al-Hasakah province, local sources told Anadolu Agency on Saturday.

According to the sources, who asked not to be named due to fears of reprisal, two of the girls -- both aged around 12 -- had been attending language school in the city of Al-Qamishli when they were taken by the group on May 4.

They were then reportedly taken to receive military training in the village of Tal Barak some 60 kilometers from Al-Qamishli.

The mothers of some of the abducted girls have since staged a three-day sit-in outside a local PYD recruitment office to protest the abductions, but to no avail, the sources said.

According to the same sources, the PYD attempted to abduct two other girls on May 5 and 9 in the nearby rural area of Ayn al-Arab.

The father of one of the two girls, who reportedly managed to rescue his daughter from the abductors and send her to Turkey, has been jailed in Ayn al-Arab, the sources said.
