Suicide bombing kills 12 in Iraqi capital

A bomber blew himself up in a marketplace in the Shia district of Kadhimiyah in northern Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions to speaking to media.

Health Ministry official Mahmoud al-Khafaji said at least 12 people were killed in the bombing.

“Another 15 people were injured in the attack,” he told Anadolu Agency.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attacks, though Iraqi authorities often point the finger at Daesh group, which overran vast territory in northern and western Iraq in 2014.

According to UN estimates, at least 2,119 people were killed in violence across Iraq in June.
