2 mummification workshops discovered in Egypt
2 mummification workshops and 2 sarcophagi were discovered during archaeological work in Egypt's ancient Saqqara region
New historical discoveries were made in the hundreds of years old historical Saqqara region in Giza, Egypt.
Two workshops where human and animal mummification processes were carried out and two sarcophagi were unearthed in the region where archaeological works are ongoing.
In a statement made by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, it was stated that in the rooms of the human mummification workshop, stone beds where lifeless bodies were laid were found.
On the sides of the beds were clay pots, mummification tools and various vessels, Ihlas News Agency reported.
It was stated that the other workshop was used for the mummification of animals considered sacred, while the 2 sarcophagi found belong to the 24th and 14th centuries BC.
Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that the history of the mummification workshops dates back to the 30th dynasty of ancient Egypt, which ruled about 2,400 years ago.
The Saqqara region, one of the most important burial sites of ancient Egypt, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
