Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan's film "About Dry Grasses", which had its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, has been selected as Türkiye's nominee for the 96th Academy Awards (Oscar).
An evaluation meeting was held by a 15-member selection committee consisting of representatives of professional organizations in the field of cinema to determine Türkiye's candidate for "Best International Film". In the meeting where 7 films that applied to the Cinema Professional Unions Power Union were evaluated, the film "About Dry Grasses" directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan was determined as Türkiye's candidate for "Best International Film".
The award ceremony to be organized in the United States is planned to be held in March next year.
Starring Deniz Celiloglu, Merve Dizdar, Musab Ekici, and Ece Bagci, the film tells the story of Samet, an art teacher who, in the last year of his compulsory service in a small village, hopes to be assigned to Türkiye’s Istanbul, but whose life is turned upside down when he is accused of harassment by two female students.
