During the excavation for construction in the Ilkadım district of Türkiye's Samsun, a settlement, which is considered to belong to Hellenistic, Roman, and Eastern Roman periods, was found.
Türkiye Samsun Museum Directorate officials were notified when historical remains were found during the construction of a housing project in Samsun's Tepecik neighborhood.
In the work carried out by the museum archaeologists, the remains, which are considered to belong to the Hellenistic, Roman and Eastern Roman periods, were unearthed.
The most important part of the remains is the infrastructure system and the water channel. It is estimated that the area where coins, ceramic fragments, roof tiles, tombs, and architectural remains were found was used as a settlement area in ancient times.
It is learned that rescue excavation works are continuing in the area taken under protection by Ilkadım Municipality.
