Syrian government forces clashed for the first time in Syria since the earthquake devastated the region last week, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday.

The observatory said government forces bombed the outskirts of the opposition city of Atarib. The bombs are said to have targeted people who came out after the 5.2-magnitude earthquake in Syria last night.

Observatory Director Rami Abdurlrahman said that 235 people lost their lives in the earthquake that took place last week in Atarib and nearby areas.

According to the UN Agency, the number of people who lost their lives in the Türkiye-based earthquake in Syria is more than 4,4400.

Government and opposition forces also clashed in another part of the northwest near the government town of Saraqeb, while government forces shelled the outskirts of two villages in Hama province, the Observatory reported.

Reuters could not independently verify the reports.
