Japan has announced that it has deployed Patriot (PAC-3) missiles on Miyako Island in the southwest of the country, close to the Taiwan Strait, for national security reasons.

In Japan, Cabinet Chief Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) has deployed Patriot missiles to Miyako Island in the island province of Okinawa.

Matsuno stated that the missiles deployed are to ensure national security and will target possible long-range ballistic missiles of North Korea.

According to the information in the national press, it was reported that PAC-3 missiles were also deployed to the islands of Ishigaki and Yonaguni in the same region.

Miyako, Yonaguni and Ishigaki islands of Okinawa in the southwest of the country are known as the closest region of the country to the Taiwan Strait.
