The Kinzhal hypersonic missile, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced to the world as "unstoppable by air defense systems", hit by Ukraine's Patriot missile has been confirmed by the US.

According to the news of Anadolu, US Department of Defense (Pentagon) Spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder confirmed that the Ukrainian army hit the Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missile with the Patriot missile.

The shooting down of the Kinzhal hypersonic missile, which the Russian army used several times in the Ukraine war and which Russian President Vladimir Putin described as "unstoppable by air defense systems", with the Patriot missile became the agenda in the media. The statement of the Ukrainian army regarding this came to the agenda at the Pentagon press conference.

“I can confirm that they [the Ukrainian army] shot down a Russian missile using Patriot,” Ryder said. When asked whether the Russian missile in question was the Kinzhal, Ryder replied, "Correct." However, the spokesperson declined to say which country supplied the battery that shot down the Russian hypersonic missile.

Patriot air defense systems were used by the US against Iranian ballistic missiles in Iraq and Saudi Arabia, but this was the first time this system shot down a hypersonic missile.
