First female admiral in Turkish history appointed by President Erdogan

Türkiye has appointed a woman as an admiral for the first time in Turkish Naval Forces history, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced after a Supreme Military Council meeting Thursday.

In the Turkish Naval Forces, Staff Colonel Gokcen Firat will be promoted to Rear Admiral (lower half) RDML.

After the meeting behind closed doors, which was presided over by President Erdogan, a decision was made.

The meeting is used to set the military agenda for Türkiye and typically discusses issues like hiring, firing, and other staffing choices.
