Following a meeting of the Supreme Military Council held behind closed doors and presided over by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Gokcen Firat will be promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral (RDML) in the Turkish Naval Forces.

Türkiye has appointed a woman as an admiral for the first time in Turkish Naval Forces history, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced after a Supreme Military Council meeting Thursday.
In the Turkish Naval Forces, Staff Colonel Gokcen Firat will be promoted to Rear Admiral (lower half) RDML.
After the meeting behind closed doors, which was presided over by President Erdogan, a decision was made.
The meeting is used to set the military agenda for Türkiye and typically discusses issues like hiring, firing, and other staffing choices.
