In a statement on the social networking site Instagram, Lee's family stated that the artist died at her home in the city of Sao Paulo. Lee, who gained great fame in the country with her works "Baila conmigo" and "Mania de voce", had been fighting lung cancer since 2021.

Lee, who won numerous awards, including two Latin Grammys and who plays piano, flute, banjo, harmonica, classical and electric guitars, she became known in the country as a versatile artist. Singer-songwriter Lee had three children with Roberto de Carvalho, to whom she has been married for over 47 years. It was shared that the artist will be sent off on her last journey with a ceremony to be held in Sao Paulo's second largest park, Ibirapuera Park.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced that they declared three days of mourning in the country due to Lee's death. Lula da Silva stated that he was deeply saddened by Lee's death and said, "Singer, songwriter, actress, multi-instrumentalist. An artist ahead of her time. She found the title 'queen of rock' inappropriate, but she lived up to this nickname throughout her career. She struggled with machismo in life and in music. She has inspired generations of women," used the phrases.
