Pre-winter repairs have begun for the 250-year old conical domed houses of Harran district, which wow the hundreds of international and local tourists who visit every year. The architectural structures are built from rose oil, wattle, daub and eggwhites, and due to these materials, they remain warm in the winter and cool in the summer. They become narrower from the base up, and are around 5 meters--30-40 bricks--high inside. The walls have survived to the present day due to clay being plastered on both sides. In addition, many unused houses in the district now house Syrians who have sought refuge in Turkey.
