A high-level Hamas delegation headed by Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas political bureau, reportedly arrived in Cairo on Wednesday to hold talks with Egyptian officials over the latest developments in Palestine.

According to an official statement released by Hamas, delegation that arrived in Egypt, includes the head of the movement abroad Khaled Mashel and vice president of the movement Saleh Al-Arouri.

During the meeting, Israel's violations in East Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, the increasing violence and the siege of Gaza will be discussed.

Last week, Cairo hosted a Palestinian delegation from the Gaza strip led by prominent members of the Islamic Jihad.

The visit comes amid heightened Israeli-Palestinian tensions since the new far-right government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to power in late December.

Egypt has warned of the severe dangers of the ongoing escalation between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, calling for maximum restraint and an end to aggression and provocative measures.
