In the statement made by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that it was welcomed that Türkiye and then Hungary declared their intention to ratify the protocol on Finland's accession to NATO.
In the statement, it was emphasized that France supported Sweden and Finland's joint and urgent requests to join NATO from the very first moment.
"Sweden and Finland have significant and interoperable military capabilities with NATO. Their membership will therefore make a decisive contribution to the security of the Euro-Atlantic region and the allies." In the statement, it was noted that the war returned to European soil, and in a context, strengthening NATO is in the interest of all its members.
On the other hand, France's expectation was that Türkiye and Hungary would approve Sweden's accession protocol so that NATO could accept these two new allies at the Vilnius Summit to be held in Lithuania in July 2023.
