Serbia will not sign the agreement

| Last update :

A meeting was held yesterday on the implementation of an 11-point agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, where tensions have escalated in the last few years. However, Serbia stated that they do not recognize Kosovo and announced that it would not sign the annex to the agreement known as the “French-German Plan”. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that they want to normalize bilateral relations with Kosovo, but since Serbia does not recognize Kosovo, it does not want to sign any internationally binding document.

Serbia will not sign the agreement

Continuing to see Kosovo, which declared its independence in 2008, as its own territory, Serbia blew today to Kosovo, where it came together to normalize relations yesterday.

President Aleksandar Vucic made statements regarding the annex to the agreement prepared on the implementation of the 11-point agreement known as the "French-German Plan", which he and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti agreed on yesterday.

'I DON'T WANT TO SIGN'

Stating that they want to normalize bilateral relations with Kosovo, but since Serbia does not recognize Kosovo, he does not want to sign any internationally binding document, Vucic said, "Since Serbia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, I do not want to sign any legally binding international document with Kosovo."

Kosovo Prime Minister Kurti and Serbian President Vucic met yesterday in Ohrid, North Macedonia for a new round of negotiations.

'YOU CAN'T LIVE IN ISOLATED'

Stating that a verbal agreement was made with Kosovo, Vucic said, “Serbia wants to have normal relations with Kosovo. We want to travel, do business. You can't live in isolation under 100-meter walls," he said.

Saying that Serbia cannot be compelled to recognize Kosovo, Vucic said that his country will not implement any agreement terms regarding Kosovo's membership to the UN. Saying that the text of the application addendum has been changed 12 times and that he is fighting for a better agreement, Vucic explained that the most important thing for them is Serbia's staying on the path to EU membership. The President of Serbia emphasized that an agreement was also reached for the establishment of the Union of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo, and that this way they would gain an institutional framework for the activities of Kosovo Serbs.

'KOSOVO AND SERBIA HAVE ACTUALLY KNOWED EACH OTHER'

Speaking after the meetings held yesterday, Kosovo Prime Minister Kurti said, "Since Serbia has not signed the agreement yet, this means that Kosovo and Serbia have actually recognized each other."

Kurti said, “We came to Ohrid to sign the implementing annex to the agreement as we agreed before. But the other party, as before, refused to sign the agreement with its annexes."
