Finland will officially join our alliance in the coming days: NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Finland, of which Türkiye has approved NATO membership, will officially join the alliance in the coming days.

The proposal regarding Finland's NATO accession protocol was accepted in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. In a statement on the subject, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that he welcomed the decision of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

Stating that all 30 NATO allies, including Türkiye, have approved the accession protocol, “I just met with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö to congratulate him. Finland will officially join our alliance in the coming days,” Stoltenberg said.

Stating that NATO membership will increase Finland's security and strengthen the alliance, Stoltenberg said, “Finland has a very adequate army and strong democratic institutions. For this reason, Finland will add a lot to our alliance.”

'FASTEST RATIFICATION PROCESS IN NATO HISTORY'

Stating that all NATO allies took a historic decision by inviting Finland and Sweden to join the alliance last year, NATO Secretary General said, “We had the fastest ratification process in NATO history. All allies agree that it is in everyone's interest to finalize Sweden's ratification process quickly. I look forward to welcoming Sweden as a member of the NATO family as soon as possible.”
