We will take countermeasures to ensure our security: Russia

Having received the approval of Türkiye, Finland became a member of NATO. Harsh statements continue to come one after another from the Russian front, which opposes Finland's membership. Lastly, Spokesperson Peskov, who made a statement to the journalists in the capital Moscow, said in his statement that he evaluated Finland's membership in NATO, "We will take countermeasures to ensure our own security in tactical and strategic terms."

'NATO CONTINUES TO HAVE AN ATTITUDE TO RUSSIA'

Pointing out that they view NATO's enlargement negatively in terms of Russia's interests and security, "We believe this will further increase the current tension. In many ways, NATO remains an institution that is hostile to Russia,” Peskov said.

Emphasizing that Russia will take various steps regarding Finland's NATO membership, "We will take countermeasures to ensure our own security, tactically and strategically. These measures will be taken as we see fit,” he said.

Peskov underlined that they will closely follow the process of the deployment of NATO infrastructure and weapons to Finland.

Pointing out that there are important differences between Ukraine's possible NATO membership and Finland, Peskov noted that it is not possible to compare the situation between the two countries.

31ST MEMBER OF NATO

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that Finland will join the alliance as the 31st member tomorrow, and its flag will be hoisted at NATO headquarters.

Stoltenberg, who held a press conference at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, said that Türkiye was the last country to approve membership.

Stoltenberg reiterated his wish for Sweden to complete the membership process as soon as possible.
