Azerbaijan took a new step to ensure security in the Lachin Corridor on the border with Armenia on Sunday.
In a statement made by the Azerbaijan State Border Service, it was noted that, in violation of the triple declaration of November 10, 2020, a border checkpoint was established at the beginning of the Lachin-Khankendi road to prevent personnel crossings, shipments of ammunition, mines and other military equipment from Armenia to the illegal Armenian armed groups located on the territory of Azerbaijan. The checkpoint was established in response to the unilaterally established checkpoint by Armenia.
The command of the Russian peacekeeping force and the Turkish-Russian Joint Observation Center were also informed about the border control point established at 12:00 pm local time.
In a statement on the subject, Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ayhan Hajizade said that Azerbaijan established a checkpoint on the border of the two countries due to Armenia's abuse of the Lachin-Khankendi road and the resulting security threats.
Hacızade underlined that suitable conditions will be provided for the Armenians living in Karabakh to move to both sides.
