Former Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister's house raided for corruption

The home of former Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister Elahi was raided overnight on charges of corruption. 12 people, whose identities were not disclosed, were detained in the raid.

Former Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and former Punjab Prime Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi's home in Lahore was raided at night by the Anti-Corruption Organization (ACE).

After the people in the house threw stones at the police, the police car broke through the garden gate and entered. Twelve people, whose identities have not been disclosed so far, were detained in the raid.

TV footage showed that riot police officials entered the house and used batons to beat the employees of the Elahi family.

Police officers could not find Elahi despite extensive search of the house. Search efforts continued until 2 am on Saturday.

Elahi's son confirmed the raid, saying, "Punjab police is at our residence to arrest my father right now in a case for which he got bail today. His bail hearing was covered by all media outlets." He referred to the phrase "Rule of Law has ended in Pakistan" by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Former Prime Minister Imjran Khan said, "Strongly condemn the illegal raid on Pervez Elahi's home with no respect to the women and family members present."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Elahi, was arrested on corruption charges, and today, 1 million Pakistani rupees was released by the court on bail. The court announced that Elahi was released due to lack of evidence.
