Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol met in Seoul on Sunday. The two leaders' agendas were nuclear threats from North Korea and building deeper ties with China.
A Japanese leader's first bilateral visit to Seoul in 12 years brings back Yoon's visit to Tokyo in March as they try to close a chapter on the historical disagreements that have dominated relations between the two countries for years.
Before departing, Mr Kishida told reporters he hopes to have “an open discussion based on a relationship of trust” with Mr Yoon, without elaborating on specific issues.
Some of the South Korean public criticizes Yoon for giving more than he receives to improve relations with Japan.
