Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was arrested on corruption charges in Pakistan on May 9, left the court building hours after the Islamabad High Court ordered him to be released on 2-week temporary bail. Khan was taken to a car under heavy security measures.

In a statement released by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party, it was announced that Khan was on his way to Lahore.

KEPT IN THE BUILDING DESPITE POSTING BAIL

According to Ihlas News Agency, Imran Khan posted a video on social media before leaving the building, saying that he was still being held in the building despite his bail being approved.

In the video, Khan said, "I have been kidnapped and I am being held here by force. I tell all the people that they have bad intentions. They want to do something to me again and everyone should be prepared for it."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Yesterday, the Supreme Court described Khan's detention in the case against him as "unlawful" and ordered his "immediate release".

Imran Khan had fallen from power after a vote of no confidence in parliament in April last year.

Khan, who is on trial in the "al-Qadir" case on corruption charges, was arrested on May 9 while he was on his way to testify before the Islamabad High Court.

Following Khan's arrest, his supporters took to the streets across the country, at least 11 people lost their lives and at least 290 people were injured in protests that turned violent. At least 2,500 people were detained during the demonstrations.
