French President Emmanuel Macron spoke to journalists on Sunday, a day after the surprise arrival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on a French government plane to the summit in Japan.
Brazil and India from the non-aligned "Global South" of low- and middle-income countries are also attending the G7 Summit. It is therefore an opportunity for Ukraine to get these countries to isolate Russia.
Macron said that the G7 summit was an opportunity to convince countries, especially those that do not have a lot of trade-offs with Ukraine.
"This war isn't just European," Macron said, referring to the summit in Hiroshima as a summit of unity for Ukraine.
Macron declined to comment on the Bakhmut point, where fighting has raged for months, with Russia saying on Saturday that it was now in control.
"I will remain prudent. This battle, which started in December, shows the difficulty with which the Russians have to advance," he said.
