The delegations of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are still in Jeddah despite the expiration on June 3 of a five-day ceasefire agreement brokered by Saudi Arabia and the United States.
"Remain steadfast in their commitment to the people of Sudan and call upon the parties to agree to and effectively implement a new ceasefire, with the aim of arriving at a permanent cessation of hostilities," the mediating countries said in a statement on Sunday.
Saudi Arabia and the US are making daily efforts to de-escalate the conflict between the two sides, Asharq Al Awsat reported.
These efforts focus on facilitating humanitarian assistance and helping the parties agree on short-term steps before resuming the Jeddah negotiations.
Saudi Arabia and the United States have expressed their readiness to help restart formal talks in war-torn Sudan and reminded the parties to uphold their obligations under the May 11 Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan.
