Russia is trying to distract the world by creating chaos in Africa, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a message to the Ambrosetti Forum in Italy.
Zelenskyy sent a video message to the Ambrosetti Forum, which is held every year at the beginning of September in the town of Cernobbio on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, where international developments are discussed.
In his message, the Ukrainian leader commented on the ongoing war with Russia.
"Without Crimea, without Donbas, and without the occupied territories there will be no sustainable peace in Ukraine and therefore in Europe. Ukraine, as a civilized nation, does not recognize that Crimea belongs to Russia. Other countries do not recognize it either, so the situation is not sustainable, there will be permanent chaos. This is what Russia is looking for. This can be resolved diplomatically or militarily. The withdrawal of Russian troops from the peninsula will save lives." Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy also drew attention to the Russian presence in African countries.
"Even when Russia is trying to create chaos in Africa, we see weakness, not strength. They are not showing strength, they are actually trying to distract the world," he said.
Speaking about the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the Ukrainian leader said that demilitarisation of the area around the plant was the main task of everyone to prevent a nuclear disaster.
Zelenskyy stated that Italy has supported them since the beginning of the war and did not doubt it and that Italy, which will assume the Presidency of the G7 next year, will bring strong solutions not only for the security of Ukraine or Europe but also for global security.
