Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Yuriyovych Reznikov was dismissed, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement on his social media account.
"This week the parliament will be asked to take a personnel decision. I decided to replace the Minister of Defence of Ukraine," the Ukrainian President said.
"Oleksii Reznikov took an active part in a large-scale war that lasted more than 550 days. I believe that the Ministry needs new approaches and other forms of interaction both with the army and with society as a whole. Rustem Umerov will now be the Ukrainian Defence Ministry. Umerov needs no additional publicity. I expect the parliament to support this nomination," Zelenskyy added.
Former MP Rustem Umerov (41) has been the head of the State Wealth Fund of Ukraine since September 2022. It is stated that Umerov has an important role in war agreements for Ukraine, especially the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
