Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting with Egypt's leaderAbdel Fattah al-Sisi, with whom he has maintained relations as Chargé d'Affaires since 2013, at the G20 Leaders Summit in New Delhi, the capital of India. The meeting of the two signaled that the ice would break after 10 years.
President Erdogan pointed out that bilateral relations entered a new era with the appointment of ambassadors and expressed his belief that bilateral relations will reach the level they deserve as soon as possible. Emphasizing that the support given by the Egyptian administration to Turkish investors and companies is important, Erdogan underlined that they also attach importance to revitalizing cooperation in the fields of LNG, nuclear energy, culture, and education.
While Erdogan's diplomatic traffic was widely covered in the international media, a separate parenthesis was opened especially for his meeting with Sisi.
Arab News reported the meeting as "The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and energy cooperation between their countries", while the Times of India headlined the meeting as "Erdogan met with Egypt's Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the G20 Summit in New Delhi".
Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported the meeting with the headline "Erdogan and Sisi held a private meeting".
"Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met face-to-face with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in New Delhi on Sunday after a decade-long rift between the two countries," American journal Barron's reported.
