Azerbaijan launched an "anti-terrorist" operation yesterday after attacks on Azerbaijani security forces in Karabakh. After this development, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev responded to the "ceasefire" calls, especially from the United States (US) and Russia. Aliyev announced his only condition for the end of the operation.
Azerbaijan made a statement on the phone call between President Aliyev and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
According to the statement, during his meeting with Blinken, Aliyev explained the reasons for the anti-terrorist measures initiated by the Azerbaijani army in Karabakh.
Speaking about the Armenian armed forces in Karabakh and their increasing provocations in recent months, the so-called regime's "presidential election", Aliyev noted that in order to prevent provocative actions, they had to start local counter-terrorism measures in the region.
Aliyev emphasized that the Azerbaijani army did not target civilians and infrastructure facilities, but only destroyed legitimate military targets.
Aliyev reminded that the representatives of the Armenians living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan were repeatedly invited to dialogue by the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan to discuss reintegration issues, but these invitations were rejected, and stated that they reiterated the invitation to dialogue even during the anti-terrorist measures.
Aliyev stated that if the Armenian armed forces were in Karabakh, anti-terrorism measures would be stopped.
Over the past few months, Armenian armed groups have continued to systematically fire on Azerbaijani army positions and lay landmines.
Finally, a truck belonging to the Azerbaijani state institution stepped on a mine on the Ahmetbeyli-Fuzuli-Shusha highway in Khojavent province and 2 people were killed.
The police vehicle traveling to the scene stepped on another mine and 4 policemen were martyred.
In response, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence announced that local anti-terrorist measures were launched in Karabakh to restore the constitutional structure.
