While conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, the United States (US) military and financial support continues. United States President Joe Biden administration continues its efforts to increase the armoured vehicle capacity of the Ukrainian army in this period when Kyiv continues its counter-offensive.

Washington is stated to have delivered the previously promised US-made M1 Abrams tanks to the Ukrainian army. Speaking to the New York Times (NYT), two senior US officials noted that the tanks were delivered to Ukraine before the promised date and will be used on the battlefield shortly.

First of 31 tanks promised to Ukraine by the US has arrived in the Black Sea coastal country and could be used to breach Russia's multi-layered defences in the south of the country, officials told the NYT.

US President Joe Biden and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin announced last week that the Abrams tanks, which Ukrainian tankers continue to train in Germany, will be sent in a few days.

NYT did not specify the number of tanks delivered to Ukraine.

MILITARY AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO UKRAINE

US President Joe Biden announced a new military aid package of 325 million dollars to Kyiv last week when he hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

The US started to provide military and financial support to Kyiv after Russia annexed Ukraine's Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson and Crimea regions. The US Congress has so far approved 113 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine.
