Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discussed the latest situation in Karabakh and the normalization process in Armenia in a telephone conversation, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to a statement released by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Russia, the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the current situation in the region were discussed during the meeting.
Emphasizing Azerbaijan's commitment to dialogue on the reintegration of Armenian residents living in the Karabakh region, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan will continue to take comprehensive measures to meet the needs of Armenian residents.
Stating that the termination of the so-called regime in the territory of Azerbaijan, the disarmament of the Armenian armed forces, and their removal from the territory of Azerbaijan are being carried out, Bayramov conveyed to Lavrov that Azerbaijan is also in favor of the progress of the peace process with Armenia.
It was also reported that during the telephone conversation, views were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the launch of a counter-terrorism operation following the actions of Armenian separatists in Karabakh. After 24 hours of operation, Armenian separatists reported that they laid down arms. With the disarmament of the separatists, the Azerbaijani flag was re-erected in many settlements occupied since 1994.
Meetings were held between the representatives of Armenian civilians in Karabakh and the Baku administration on the integration and rights of Armenians in Karabakh on September 21 in Yevlakh and September 24 in Khojaly. It was agreed that the third meeting will be held in the near future.
The first meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian after the Karabakh operation will take place in Spain's Granada on October 5. At the European Political Community Summit to be held in Granada, Spain, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz, and European Union (EU) Council President Charles Michel are also scheduled to attend the talks.
