United Kigndom (UK)soldiers may be deployed to Ukraine to train soldiers for the first time, as training efforts increase on the ground between Ukraine and its international allies. In an interview with The Telegraph newspaper, British Defence MinisterGrant Shapps said that they are discussing the deployment of British soldiers to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers.
"I was talking today about bringing the military training closer to Ukraine and actually bringing it to Ukraine. I think there is an opportunity to bring more to the 'country', particularly in the west of the country," Shapps told the press.
The British Minister said he had discussed the plan with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier this week.
"It is important that we do not allow a situation to arise by default in which international shipping is somehow not allowed in these waters. So I think there are many places where Britain can advise." Shapps added.
Ukraine continues to rely on its international allies for military training, equipment and humanitarian aid as the Russian-Ukrain war enters its 19th month. It should be noted that the United States (US) has deployed some 4,000 soldiers to defendNorth Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) countries bordering Ukraine. Pentagon officials are discussing whether the US troops stationed on the Ukrainian border should return home or be replaced by new ones.
