Israel conducts airstrikes in Syria's Damascus and Aleppo

Local Damascus radio reported that Syrian air defense systems were activated against the Israeli planes and many missiles were fired. While it was reported that there was only damage in the attack on Aleppo airport, no detailed information was given about the situation in Damascus.

State news agency SANA quoted an unnamed military official as saying that no one was hurt in the attacks.

While the Israeli army did not make any statement about the attack, Syrian state television reported the development as breaking news. While it is not known whether the Israeli attack is related to the developments in Gaza, the Israeli press pointed out that the Tel Aviv administration has frequently struck Damascus and Aleppo in recent years. They would be the first Israeli strikes on Syria since the militant Palestinian group Hamas carried out its deadly attacks in southern Israel.

Israel has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria, citing Iran's military presence in the region. Haaretz newspaper emphasized that the airstrike was carried out one day beforeIranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian's visit to Syria.

Israel has targeted airports and sea ports in the government-held parts of Syria in an apparent attempt to prevent arms shipments from Iran to militant groups backed by Tehran, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

The Israeli military does not usually comment on such incidents, and there was no immediate statement from it on Thursday.
