UN Security Council convenes emergency meeting on hospital massacre in Gaza

Russia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after Israel launched an airstrike on the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, killing at least 500 civilians.

The Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations (UN) announced the call for the meeting with a message posted on its social media account.

"Following the attack on the hospital in Gaza, the UAE and Russia have called an emergency meeting of the UNSC to discuss the situation in Palestine," the message said.

The Permanent Mission of Brazil, which holds the rotating presidency of the UNSC, said in a statement that the call for the meeting was discussed, but no decision was taken yet.

Later, it was announced that the UN Security Council would hold an emergency meeting today to discuss the attack on the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza.

ARAB LEAGUE DECLARES 3 DAYS OF MOURNING

The Arab League announced that the flag was lowered to half-mast and a 3-day mourning was declared due to the Israeli bomb attack on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza. It was stated that the mourning decision was taken due to the Israeli attack on the hospital in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death of hundreds of civilians.

'ORGANIZED STATE TERROR'

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) described the Israeli attack on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, which killed hundreds of people, as "organized state terrorism". In a written statement, the OIC condemned in the strongest terms "Israel's horrific massacre targeting the hospital in Gaza," calling it a "crime against humanity" and a "war crime".

"This crime is organized state terrorism that deserves accountability and punishment," the statement said, calling on the international community to urgently intervene to end Israel's war crimes in Gaza and provide international protection to the Palestinian people.

WHAT HAPPENED

Hamas's military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, announced that they launched a comprehensive attack against Israel called "Al-Aqsa Flood" on the morning of October 7.

While thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel, armed groups entered the settlements in the region.

The Israeli army also launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of warplanes.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that approximately 3 thousand people were killed and more than 10 thousand people were injured in Gaza in the Israeli attacks.

In the occupied West Bank, it was reported that 1000 Israelis were killed in the attacks organized from Gaza and 5 thousand people were wounded, 106 of them seriously.

The Israeli army hit Damascus and Aleppo airports. As the Middle East is once again turning into a bloodbath, a deadline has been set for nearly 2 and a half million Palestinians to leave the blockaded Gaza.

Most recently, Israel attacked the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, killing civilians.
