Türkiye's leader Orban is person to be honoured: Trump

Former US President Donald Trump confused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban during his speech in New Hampshire on October 23.

"There is a man called Viktor Orban, I don't know if you have heard of him, but he is probably one of the most powerful leaders in the world. He is the leader of Türkiye," Trump said.

On the other hand, Trump added that Orban's country has a front with Russia. But neither Hungary nor Türkiye has a border with Russia.

Donald Trump had previously praised Hungarian Prime Minister Orban, known for his anti-immigration, and described his style of governance as "illiberal democracy". Trump hosted Viktor Orban at the White House in 2019.

Orban was the first European leader to express his support for Trump in the 2016 presidential elections, and after the indictment was prepared against Trump this year, he told him to "keep fighting". Orban also addressed Donald Trump at the US Conservative Political Action Coalition meeting this year, saying, "Mr President, come back. Make America great again and bring us peace".
