On the last day of the lists to be submitted to the Supreme Election Board, it was learned that Mesut was among the candidates for parliament. It is said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who previously announced that there will be surprise names on the list, pointed to Mesut Özil.

President Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan had witnessed the wedding of the Ozil couple.
