Bob Marley's daughter Cedella Marley is a strong advocate for women's rights and a football fan. Using her connections in the entertainment industry and the Bob Marley Foundation, she even went one step further, raising funds to start the women's soccer team.
Cedella Marley created the “Football is Freedom” project to help raise money for travel expenses, jerseys and training camps. She also composed a song called “Strike Hard” for her players, thereby helping with fundraising initiatives.
Thanks to her efforts, she collected 50 thousand euros. Even though the women's team she founded in 2015 could not participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, Cedella brought the players in the team together and helped her project gain momentum.
Her team qualified for the 2019 Women's World Cup, making Jamaica the first Caribbean country to achieve this feat. They also competed in the 2023 Women's World Cup held in Australia-New Zealand.
