At the congress in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, organized by The International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani was unanimously elected as the new president of FIBA, replacing Hamane Niang.
Al Thani has been FIBA Vice President since 2019 and FIBA Asia President since 2002.
Al Thani made the statement after his election as FIBA president.
"It is a great honor for me, my country Qatar and our Asian continent to take on this responsibility," he said.
