The Turkish National Women's Volleyball Team aka “Sultans of The Net” had a match with Poland in the quarter-finals of the European Championship in Brussels, Belgium. The Turkish team, which defeated its opponent 3-0, qualified to play in the semi-finals.
“The Sultans of the Net” came from behind in the first set but won 25-23 with Melissa Vargas' points and took a 1-0 lead. Trailing 21-18 in the second set, the Turkish team caught an important series with Ebrar Karakurt's serves. Taking 6 points in a row and leading 24-21, the national team finished the set with Vargas' smash and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-22 result.
After the 10th point in the third set, they completely took the lead and won the set 25-18 and the match 3-0 and became the opponent of Italy in the semi-finals.
The Turkish team reached the semi-finals of the European Championship for the 5th time in a row. Türkiye, which reached the semi-finals for the 7th time in its history, had reached the semi-finals in 2003 and 2011. The national team reached the semi-finals in the last 5 tournaments in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023.
Türkiye, which has 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in the European championships, is only 2 wins away from winning the gold medal in the organization, which it participated as the number 1 in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) rankings.
A National Women's Volleyball Team will play with the last European Champion Italy in the semi-finals on Friday, September 1.
