In the last grand slam tennis tournament of the season, the United States Open aka US Open, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff reached the final.
Women's semi-final matches of the US Open were played on the eleventh day of the tennis tournament in New York, United States.
The match between Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys (17th seed), who is guaranteed to be ranked No. 1 in the world rankings that will be updated after the US Open, was fiercely contested.
Keys, the 2017 finalist, won the first set 6-0 without giving her opponent a game. But Sabalenka, who took the next sets 7-6, won 2-1 after 2 hours and 32 minutes.
The 25-year-old Belarusian tennis player thus qualified for the second grand slam final of his career after the 2023 Australian Open, where she was champion.
In the other match, Coco Gauff (6) played with Karolina Muchova (10), who played the final of the French Open this year.
The 19-year-old Gauff, who won the match 2-0 with sets of 6-4 and 7-5, reached the second major tournament final of her career after the French Open in 2022.
On the other hand, the second set of the match witnessed a protest by 3 climate activists in the stands.
The match was suspended for about 50 minutes after one of the protesters glued his feet to the ground with glue.
After the activists wearing t-shirts with the slogan "Stop fossil fuels" were removed from Arthur Ashe Stadium, the match continued.
