Neymar became the Brazilian National Team's top scorer and surpassed the legendary player Pele.
The 31-year-old player Neymar, who shook the nets twice in the match in which Brazil beat Bolivia 5-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, increased the total number of national team goals to 79 in 125 matches.
"I never imagined I could break this record. I don't think I'm better than Pele or any other national player," Neymar said.
The Brazilian Football Federation made statements on the subject on its social media account.
"Congratulations, Neymar, for beating the King in goals. I'm sure Pele gave you a big round of applause today," the Federation said.
Neymar, who also holds the record for the player who paid the highest amount for his transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for 222 million euros in 2017, was transferred from the French representative to Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal at the beginning of this season.
