Turkish National Women's Volleyball Team aka "Sultans of the Net" defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 in the first match in Group B of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifiers played in Japan.
Ebrar Karakurt scored 16 points and Melissa Vargas contributed to the victory with 15 points from the Turkish team.
Sultans of the Net will compete in the group matches against host Japan, ranked 7th in the world rankings, and Brazil, ranked 5th in the world, as well as Belgium, Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and Peru.
The Turkish team will play Bulgaria in the second match tomorrow at 7 p.m. (Turkish time zone).
The countries ranked in the "top 2" in their groups in the qualifiers will win a quota for the Paris Olympic Games.
Olympic qualifiers will be played in 3 groups in 3 different countries.
In the qualifiers, 24 teams will meet in China, Japan, and Poland for Olympic visas.
The groups are as follows:
Group A (China): China, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Netherlands, Serbia, Ukraine
Group B (Japan): Japan, Türkiye, Brazil, Belgium, Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Peru
Group C (Poland): Poland, Colombia, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Slovenia, Thailand, USA.
