Türkiye will become a center in energy: Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoken at the Silivri Underground Natural Gas Storage Facility Capacity Increase Ceremony.

President Erdogan's statements:

 ‘SİLİVRİ HAS BECOME THE LARGEST STORAGE IN EUROPE’ 

I wish that the total capacity of our Silivri Underground Natural Gas Storage Facility, which has reached 4.6 billion cubic meters with the new phase we have opened, will be beneficial for our country and our nation. With today's opening, Silivri has become the largest underground gas storage facility in Europe. As it is known, we established this facility in Silivri and put the first phase into service in 2007. The final expansion works were carried out by drilling 31 thousand meters offshore in 18 wells via platforms 3 kilometers off the sea. These activities were carried out with an intensity at the level of drilling operations in the Black Sea.

‘IT WILL BE ABLE TO MEET A QUARTER OF THE DEMAND ALONE’

The materials used in all these studies were produced locally and nationally, thus contributing to our country's technology accumulation in the field of gas storage. Our Silivri Natural Gas Storage Facility has a daily capacity of 45 million cubic meters of injection and 75 million cubic meters of back production. In other words, our facility will be able to meet one-fourth of the demand alone, even during the peak consumption period of our country.

When the capacity expansion works in Ankara Salt Lake are completed, we will reach a similar rate there. Considering that our country's total natural gas consumption this year will be 53.5 billion cubic meters, the importance of the 4.6 billion cubic meters we reached in Silivri and the 5.4 billion cubic meters we targeted in Tuz Gölü will be better understood. I would like to congratulate our Ministry, institutions and contractor companies that contributed to the commissioning of the new phase of our Silivri Underground Natural Gas Storage Facility.
