If Kilicdaroglu wins, we can join NATO: Sweden

| Last update :

The newspaper published in Sweden, which hung on Türkiye's approval for NATO membership, wrote that if Türkiye's main opposition party's (CHP) leader Kilicdaroglu wins the election, his country may enter the alliance. In the news that reminded the statements of CHP's Cevikoz, it was stated that there were no positive signals from President Erdogan.

If Kilicdaroglu wins, we can join NATO: Sweden

Türkiye is locked in the elections to be held on May 14, where the president and deputies will be determined. While the presidential candidates and their place on the ballot papers became clear, the parliamentary lists also became clear.

While the election is less than 20 days away, the foreign press is also very interested in the elections in Türkiye. Almost every day, news about the elections are written in the US and European press. And even the content with enough comments to write which candidate should win is signed.

A new one of those contents came from Sweden, which insisted on terrorist extraditions to Türkiye. Expressen newspaper, published in Stockholm, brought together a news story about how critical the elections in Türkiye were for them.

THEY SET HOPE ON KILICDAROGLU

The newspaper openly expressed its expectation that the Nation Alliance's presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdarogu would win, saying, "If President Erdogan loses the elections in May, Sweden may become a NATO member at the summit to be held this summer."

CEVIKOZ'S MESSAGES HAVE REMINDED

Retired ambassador Unal Cevikoz, who is the foreign policy adviser of CHP Leader Kılıcdaroglu, who came to the fore with his statements that often provoked reactions in the news, was reminded of the statements made about Sweden's NATO membership. It was also stated that there were negative signals from President Erdogan regarding membership.

He used the following statements in the relevant part of the news:

"So far, there has been no positive sign from incumbent President Erdogan that Sweden could become a NATO member in the near future.

"If opposition leader Kilicdaroglu and his CHP party win the elections this spring, it is hoped that Sweden could become a NATO member at the July summit," Cevikoz said.

'IF OPPOSITION PARTY WINS IT MAY BE ADVANTAGE'

The article continued, "If the opposition wins, Sweden's NATO process may have an advantage."

NATO SUMMIT IS IN JULY

The NATO Summit will be held on 11-12 July in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Stockholm wants to be a new part of the military alliance at this summit.
