Taiwan has not forgotten the aid that Türkiye did 20 years ago: They will donate their salaries

After the earthquake in Kahramanmaras, the world mobilized for Türkiye. A helping hand was also extended from Taiwan. Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen and senior government officials announced that they will donate their salary to support disaster relief efforts. They stated that Türkiye was the first country to help them in the Taiwan earthquake. Tsai Ing-wen said, "Now we are returning this favor." On the other hand, the Taiwanese government sent two search and rescue teams to the disaster area.

The Taiwanese government extended a helping hand to Türkiye after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaras. Besides Tsai, Vice President Lai Ching-te, Prime Minister Chen Chien-jen and Deputy Prime Minister Cheng Wen-tsan also pledged to donate their salaries to disaster relief, Taiwanese agency CNA reported.

THEY SENT A SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM

The Taiwanese government has previously contributed $2 million in cash, while the Taiwanese people have contributed more than $340,000 to the government's donation accounts so far. Taiwan also sent two search and rescue teams consisting of 130 people to Türkiye. While the first team of 40 people started their work in the city of Adiyaman, the second team of 90 people is expected to join them.

Taiwan leader Tsai, in his video conference call with the first team to reach Türkiye, pointed out that Türkiye was the first country to send a search and rescue team to Taiwan in the 1999 earthquake and said, "20 years ago, (in the Taiwan earthquake), Türkiye gave us the first aid. It was the country that extended its hand. Now we are returning this favor." said. 

The officers in the rescue team thanked Türkiye for the help it provided in 1999, emphasizing that they were ready to help with all their resources and possibilities.
