Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has confirmed that an Austrian university professor has been held hostage in the Papua New Guinea health district.

Prime Minister Marape told local journalists on Monday that the army and police are already in place and the government is working with missionaries who mediate.

“We want those criminals to release those who are held in captivity,” he said in comments broadcast on ABC Television.

“There is no place to run, there is no place to hide,” Marape added.

The man has not been publicly identified because of the sensitivity of the situation.
