It was claimed in the Kenyan press that Preacher Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, described as a "cult leader", tricked his audience with the promise of "meeting the Prophet Jesus".

Allegedly, Nthenge convinced many people that they would meet Jesus if they died of starvation.

21 BOUDIES FOUND

The bodies of 21 people, including children, were found in the coastal town of Malindi as part of the investigation, which began after the "cult leader" was taken into custody.

In order to determine the exact cause of death of those who lost their lives, DNA samples will be taken and various tests will be performed.

BAIL REQUEST NOT ACCEPTED

Nthenge's request to be released on bail was not accepted by the court.

Police detained Nthenge after the bodies of 4 people suspected of starving themselves to death were found on 15 April.
