Death toll rises to 89 on 'starvation cult'

Investigations continue in the "starvation cult" that emerged in Kenya. In the investigations, the dead bodies of 89 people were found.

Kenyan police reported that the number of dead bodies found in their investigation into the "starvation cult" during the ongoing excavations in the Shakahola Forest has risen to 89.

According to Ihlas News Agency, Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki stated that the entire 800-acre forest was closed and declared a crime scene. He stated that this atrocity should lead not only to the most severe punishment of the perpetrators, but also to stricter regulations for every church, mosque, temple or synagogue.

Polis reported that the total loss of life increased to 89 after the bodies of 15 more people were found in mass graves in a forest in eastern Kenya.

According to Anadolu, as a "cult leader" the perpetrator Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, allegedly promised his followers that they would meet Jesus. It was stated that he also refused to eat and drink while in custody.

72 GRAVES HAVE DETECTED

According to the state broadcaster KBC, 89 graves have been identified so far.

14 CULT MEMBERS WERE DETAINED

It was stated that the efforts of the police to identify the identities are continuing in order to deliver the bodies to the families. According to the police statement, 14 cult members were detained.

While the Kenya Red Cross announced that 112 missing people were still not found, the authorities stated that 33 people were rescued from the sect.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Investigations began after at least four people were confirmed dead in Kenya, and after 11 emaciated churchgoers were rescued from a cult-like church in Kilifi county in Malindi county on April 14. Nthenge, the chief perpetrator of the incident, was detained.

It is known that church pastor Nthenge, described as "cult leader", promised many people that they would meet Jesus if they were hungry and thirsty.
