Death toll rises to 201 in 'starvation cult' investigation in Kenya

The number of corpses found in the 'starvation cult', led by a preacher in Kenya, that starved them to see Jesus is rising.

22 more bodies were recovered from the forest, which is close to the crime scene.

THE NUMBER OF DEAD ROSE TO 201

According to the statement made by local sources, it was recorded that the dead bodies of 22 more people were found in the Shakahola Forest in southeast Kenya, bringing the total loss of life to 201.

26 PEOPLE ARRESTED

Onyancha said that 594 individuals who are suspected cult members have been reported missing by their families while 26 arrests have been made.

DNA samples were collected from 93 families as the investigation against Preacher Paul Mackenzie intensified.

ORGAN TARFFICKING IS SUSPECTED

Efforts by the police to uncover the perpetrators of the cult and the circumstances of their death continue.

The investigation, which began in mid-April, revealed that some of the victims' organs were missing while investigating the bodies. That's why organ trafficking is suspected.

Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki described the Shakahola cult deaths as a highly organized crime, saying the mass graves were too many.

BAIL REQUEST DENIED

The leader of the cult, Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, who deceived many people with the promise that they will meet Jesus and "go to heaven", was detained by the police after the dead bodies of 4 people, who were learned to have died of starvation, were found on April 15. As part of the investigation, the court denied the cult leader Mackenzie's request to be released on bail.
