Mocha Cyclone claims lives in Myanmar and Bangladesh

Cyclone Mocha, which is effective in Myanmar and Bangladesh, continues to cause damage. In the floods caused by the cyclone, 1 child lost his life as a tree fell on him and 2 people died. Refugees in the region are at great risk.

Cyclone Mocha, which has been effective in the coastal parts of Myanmar and Bangladesh for a while, started at 01:00 pm local time on Sunday. The cyclone caused flooding and rainfall in the region. 

In a statement made by the United Nations Relief Office, it was stated that at least 100,000 people were moved to safe areas in Arakan state before the storm. Disaster Relief official Mijanur Rahman said that about 300,000 people were evacuated to safe areas in Bangladesh. 3 people lost their lives.

CHILD DIES AFTER TREE FALLS ON HIM

A 14-year-old boy died after a tree fell on him in Myanmar's Rakhine state, Ihlas News Agency reported.

ELECTRICITY AND INTERNET CONNECTION WERE DISRUPTED

The rescue team in Sittwe, the capital of Myanmar's Rakhine State, reported that electricity and internet connections were disrupted in the region, waves carried debris into flooded streets and waters were rising rapidly. 

MORE THAN 1 MILLION REFUGEES AT RISK

Aid workers expressed concern about the risk to more than 1 million Rohingya refugees, including half a million children, living in camps in the coastal town of Cox's Bazar.

The UN Relief Office said around 6 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Rakhine and the northwest, with 1.2 million displaced. On the other hand, the Bangladesh government issued a landslide warning due to heavy rains that were effective today.
