2.7 tons of cocaine seized in banana parcels in Italy

2.7 tons of cocaine with a market value of more than 800 million euros was seized in banana parcels in containers brought from Ecuador to Italy's Gioia Tauro port.

Two 12-meter-long refrigerated containers brought from Ecuador to the port of Gioia Tauro in Reggio Calabria, Italy, were searched. A total of 2.7 tons of pure cocaine were found hidden among the 78 tons of bananas in the containers.

In a statement, the Italian Financial Police (Guardia di Finanza) stated that the market value of cocaine is more than 800 million euros and that the containers will be transferred to Armenia via the Georgian port city of Batumi.
